We met at our collective & first "real" job after college. To be more specific, we met before 6 a.m. at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on a Monday morning having more reservations than cars, needing to clean a lot full of dirty cars, and preparing for over fifty customers within the first thirty minutes of opening. Johnny arrived with energy drink in hand and the most wrinkled red and white rain jacket with "Wabash" written in huge letters. From the start, we could agree that we had different styles of working. Stephanie style is hurry up and get it done right; Johnny style is opposed to doing things immediately or urgently. Generally, Johnny's "what's the rush" was status quo. Not a surprise that it took 10+ years for Johnny to propose!
Within the first eight months of 2020, we sold our first home that we bought together, moved three times in four months, closed and moved into our first home we built together, and got engaged. The best part of our engagement story is how "the ring" came about. Johnny is a long-time listener to JMV, a local Indianapolis sports talk radio. Johnny caught a jeweler commercial during one of the breaks and thought, "why not." From the commercial to purchase of the ring, Johnny took less than thirty minutes. Johnny then picked up the ring three weeks later. Johnny had the ring in his pocket for only six hours until he proposed. The "pop of the question" was done in the most Johnny fashion - getting Stephanie sufficiently frazzled that he had not even started efforts towards ring purchase or proposal planning. And at the peak of frustration casually saying, "here, try this ring on." Perfect. Moment. 8.4.2020.
