Lake Placid hosted the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games, and you can visit the 1932 Jack Shea Arena, the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena where the Miracle on Ice took place, the USA Rink, the Speed Skating Oval, and the Olympic Museum. The Olympic Jumping Complex is just up the road, where you can take a scenic gondola ride to the base of the ski jumps.
Rentals are available from many shops on Main Street, such as Mirror Lake Boat Rental and Downstairs Boat Rental.
There are several companies where you can rent a captained boat to cruise and swim around Lake Placid, including Placid Boat Rentals and Boat Lake Placid. For watersports, ADK Aquatics offers cruises as well as wakeboarding, waterskiing, wakesurfing, and tubing.
Mount Jo and Cobble Lookout are both moderate hikes just under 2.5 miles.
Take the Cloudsplitter Gondola Ride to the top of the mountain for panoramic views of Lake Placid, Lake Champlain, and some of the highest mountains in New York State.
