Plan for about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Los Angeles. While it's possible to just pop in for the wedding and drive home that night, we do suggest making a weekend (or night) out of it by either camping with us at Garth's or finding local accommodations (while good quality hotels are rare in the area - you'd probably want to be in Palm Springs or Desert Hot Springs for hotels), there are a lot of wonderful AirBnBs nearby. Look in Pioneertown, Landers, Joshua Tree, Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley.
Garth's Boulder Gardens has wells scattered around the property for fresh water, but we do suggest bringing plenty of water for your camping needs. There are port-o-potties but no showers. There are no dump stations or electrical hookups and no cell service. It's a truly off grid, unplugged experience.
Wear whatever will be comfortable for the environment - we suggest sensible shoes (you'll be on uneven sandy or rocky ground), sun protection, and layers for the cooling air as the sun sets. This part of the desert is slightly elevated so we don't expect extreme temperatures, but it's always best to prepare for heat and winds in this area.
Yes! We'll have a live gypsy jazz band, Dave's soul DJing, and more modern dance music throughout the night with a dance floor, so bring your dancing shoes!
Yes! Children are of course welcome. We get charged by the children's ages so be sure to answer these questions on your RSVP. Be sure to keep an eye on kids and don't let kids of any age wander off into the vast expanse of boulders without an adult. It's very easy to get lost out here (we've almost gotten lost more than once) and the venue was adamant that all children be supervised.
We're old and have all the stuff we could possibly want, so we opted for a honeymoon registry. If you'd like to help us kick off on our trip to Fiji, see our registry page (and thank you!)
Yes! There should be ample parking for all guests. We do however for safety reasons highly encourage anyone with a long drive to carpool with other guests.
