Johnathan & I met back in 2010 through mutual friends. Although it wasn’t love at first sight, God had a plan for us. Johnathan got me my very first job at Quizno’s (RIP all we want is a chicken carbonara sandwich). Even though Johnathan was my boss & liked telling me what to do way too much, working together naturally drew us closer to one another. We became best friends which eventually blossomed into love. It wasn’t until 2013 when we became a couple & it’s been a wild ride since. We are so grateful that our journey has gotten us here & that we get to celebrate with all of our loved ones.
For about a week before Johnathan proposed, I had been asking to go to the Apple Barn so that I could get my apple fritter fix. Two days before the proposal, we were out to eat with Johnathan’s sister, Madison & her husband Justin when they asked if Johnathan & I wanted to go to Elkmont in the mountains on that Sunday to take cute pictures (unbeknowst to me, this was part of Johnathan’s plan). When we got up there, Johnathan had a spot picked out next to the Spencer cabin, where there is this stone “deck” that overlooks the water. We all started taking pictures & next thing I heard was, “Hey El” so I turned around & there he was, the man of my dreams & my best friend down on one knee asking me to be his wife. Obviously, I said yes. Afterwards, several of us had to use the restroom (Elkmont is located in Metcalf Bottoms which has public restrooms). Little did I know, my family & Johnathan’s parents were waiting there at a picnic table for us (another of Johnathan’s surprises). Metcalf Bottoms is a very special place for my family. We went there almost every month & grilled out with my Mamaw, Papaw, aunts, uncles & cousins. So to say that this moment was bittersweet, is a huge understatement.
