How did we meet?

Answer

Bethany: A friend from church (Ross Hatley) invited me to his pool party & BBQ. I hadn't gone swimming all summer and had recently returned from a work trip earlier that week, so I wanted an excuse to get out and be social. Bringing a couple friends, I arrived an hour before the party officially ended, only to stay three hours caught up in conversation with Johnathan. Within the first few minutes of speaking with him, I could tell that he had a deep love for God and solid character. The similarities only continued to unfold. We both have a passion for international missions, evangelism, and prayer. When he spoke about Jesus, his face lit up. After everyone else left the BBQ area, we stayed until it was time to put the food away, sharing about how God had been speaking and working in our lives. I loved his authentic and vulnerable love for Jesus as well as his evident strong convictions and internalization of God's Word. I remember thinking, "This is the kind of guy who could actually lead me spiritually!" Johnathan: A couple weeks before I met Bethany, I signed up last minute for a work trip to D.C. where my close childhood friend named Ross Hatley lives. He assured me I could find someone on my short visit despite my skepticism! I showed up to his party immediately after I landed, and a few hours into the event I was taken back when a vibrant, beautiful woman named Bethany arrived. I immediately sensed her deep love for Jesus Christ, passion for global evangelism, depth of conviction, tested character, infectious exuberance, and tender heart. After talking with her nonstop for a few hours, Ross asked me if I was smitten. I said yes, but I later corrected myself and told him I was in awe... and I still am!

How long did we date before getting engaged?

Answer

Nine weeks. Yeah, we know that seems crazy, but when you know, you know. That's what everyone else told us at least. Was it true? We were unsure because neither of us ever seemed to "know" before - that is, until we met each other. But after spending 35 hours together in our first week of knowing each other, we could both see that the tested character, love for Jesus, similar hobbies and personalities, culture, family backgrounds, lifestyles, and life callings lined up! And we knew. That said, some family health situations also created an opportunity for us to get to know each other and our families sooner than we might have otherwise. We have both been very grateful for each other's support during this time.

Where will we be living?

Answer

Since Johnathan is stationed in the Air Force in Florida near Destin, Bethany is moving from Washington, D.C. to Florida. Johnathan and Bethany will likely be in Florida for a year-and-a-half before Johnathan is stationed elsewhere - so come visit us before we leave the beach town! We plan to have a guest room. ;)

What do you like to do together?

Answer

Running on the beach, praying for strangers and friends alike, stargazing, leading Bible studies, cooking dinner, helping each other with our writing, or just sitting and having a deep and meaningful conversation and time of worship and prayer - that's probably preferred!
