Our unique story began back in 2012 when I was living in Maryland and John was stationed in South Carolina. We met through Anna, my best friend and John's sister, when John was home for the holidays at a New Year’s Eve party. There was an immediate spark and we both knew we wanted to give it a shot despite the obvious challenges distance could bring. Later in 2013, distance became an even greater obstacle when John started an overseas tour in Okinawa, Japan, and I began my freshman year at the University of Maryland. This and the following year proved difficult to say the least. He managed to fly back home to Maryland once or twice each year, but with us both being young and living busy separate lives, the burden of distance forced a painful decision to end our relationship after two and a half years together. After almost 3 years on our own, however, we both realized that something was missing. With the time apart, John never quite felt like himself and I was a mess. Fortunately, with renewed encouragement from Anna (the true MVP), John and I reconnected early in 2018. We both had grown so much and realized we were meant for each other. John proposed the summer of 2019, and because of his job in the military we quietly married on December 12, 2019 in an intimate wedding, with plans for a formal ceremony and celebration with family and friends exactly one year later. As with most of us however, 2020 happened, so we made the decision to reschedule our ceremony for December 2021. Sometimes, in all our lives, timing makes all the difference. We are so grateful our paths led us back together for a second chance. With this as our story, we cannot wait to celebrate our marriage with all of you!
