Our Story
Over this bottle of water, November 27, 2021, at an oyster house in the vibrant pulse of Midtown Atlanta, Georgia; two souls met to compose the duet of their dreams. As Shonda sauntered around the corner, John caught a glimpse of a stunning, brown-skinned queen, her smile bright enough to outshine any spotlight. They dove into conversation, riffing on everything from music and their experiences teaching at HBCUs, to their pride in their D-9 affiliations and Music Orgs, and their love of music stretching from Vivaldi to Nas from Ledisi to Duke Ellington. As the months rolled by, their love and musical explorations evolved. John moved to Huntsville to pursue his Master’s in Music at AAMU, where with Dr. Devine they became the creative forces behind the AAMU Bulldog Beat. They mentored students who affectionately dubbed them as “Auntie and Unc,” Their love journey has just been the overture to a beautiful symphony, destined to unfold in perfect harmony composed by The Master Composer.
