How we met

War Eagle

Robina and John met in a Spanish Marketing class at Auburn University. Robina saw John walk in the room and immediately texted her friend Claire, "Spidey's in my class!" You see, John wore lots of Spiderman shirts throughout his college career and Robina always noticed the boy with the pretty eyes in the Spiderman shirts. A couple hours later they had ANOTHER class together! Robina walked in the room and noticed John once again, she walked across the room and found a desk to sit at. As she was settling in John got up from his seat and came and sat right behind Robina. She was flattered. The next week when they arrived in their Spanish class their names were written next to one another on the chalk board. What does this mean? They wondered. As it turns out, their professor had paired them together for a semester long project. They spent lunch together everyday and met in the library often to "work on the project." They often ran into each other out at bar, ignoring their friends, flirting for hours on end. One evening, Robina went out with her girls to Skybar wearing a bright red lipstick, she runs into John and they sit at the bar top talking when all of a sudden John says, "You went red on me." She swooned.

First Date

Bumpers

After almost two months of these shenanigans they had their first date at the pool hall Bumpers in Auburn. Robina went every Sunday evening with her roommate Alicia, her boyfriend (now husband) Chris and a few more friends from Red Lobster where she worked. Sundays were 'Service Industry Night' where they got free tables and $5 pitchers! Well this particular evening Robina invited John to join her usual Sunday routine. They got a pitcher and made their way to a table by the Jukebox. John was not very good at pool, actually he was really bad. Robina on the other hand, was a pool shark! Probably not actually a shark, but compared to John, she absolutely was. They took turns picking songs on the Jukebox. After the combination of Taking Back Sunday, Fergie, Foo Fighters, Pittbull and Alanis they knew it was meant to be.

The Proposal

Grand Cayman Island

Robina planned a wonderful vacation for them in at Grand Cayman Island in November for John's 30th Birthday. They stayed at the Ritz Carlton on 7 mile beach it was absolutely stunning! The first evening there was a bit rainy, they walked to a local bar for a few drinks, disagreeing about who's terrible idea it was to walk in the rain on a road with no sidewalk for a mile to a bar. Exactly how you expect every vacation to begin. Upon returning to the hotel they went to one of the bar on the resort and met a lovely couple from Atlanta, they spent the evening chatting and making plans for the rest of the vacation. While Robina stepped away to the ladies room, John shared a little secret with their new friends. The next day John and Robina spent the day on the beach, swimming, drinking champagne, kayaking and other activities. As evening approached, John and Robina were getting dressed for a dinner hoping to catch the sunset before heading out. John kept rushing Robina because they were going to, "miss the sunset" if she didn't hurry. They made it out there in plenty of time but a storm was brewing in the distance. Robina wanted to get some beautiful picture of the sun setting over the water before the storm rolled in. John was getting impatient with Robina not putting her phone down, insisting that surely she got a good enough picture by now. She HAD to try all the filters so it took a while. Well the night sky crept up on them so they made their way to one of the restaurants on the property to have a glass of wine before heading to dinner. They took their wine outside to a quite patio. Robina, clueless, doesn't see John "pretend" to drop something on the ground. She seems him still down on the ground but it's dark and she cant see what he is holding. Finally John moves a bit so the only light outside finally reveals that he is holding a beautiful ring. He says, very nervously, "Will you marry me?" They rest of vacation was spent celebrating!
