Norma, a nerdy shy girl from North Carolina, first met John, an obnoxiously funny academic from Minnesota, at one of the UW-Madison freshman events. Initially interested in a guy who did not look as handsome up close, Norma hung out with the International Learning Community group. Luckily, another guy came up to her with piercing eyes, and spoke to her in Spanish. Ever since then, they have been inseparable discussing politics, memes, books, and history. Their relationship grew stronger as Norma struggled with panic attacks, and John kept switching majors - each one supporting the other. In 2020, a little anxious pup came along named Bagel, whom they have spoiled rotten with treats, trips to the dog park, and allowing to sleep in their bed. After college, they moved down to Raleigh and acquired a feisty chihuahua named Tippy, who loves licking their feet and eating insects. Seven years after they first met, they are moving to a cute townhome with a small yard to spend their quiet nights and weekends. Let’s celebrate not just John and Norma, but the little family and community they’ve built as well.
