Question

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

The closest airport is Florence Peretola (FLR). From here you can take the train to the Santa Maria Novella Station (approximately 25 minutes), which will leave you at the city center. You can also take a taxi. Alternatively, you can fly into Milan (MXP) or Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and take a train to the Santa Maria Novella station in Florence. Milan is probably the most affordable option, and there are nonstop options from JFK, Newark, etc. There are express trains from Milan/Rome that will take about 2-2.5 hours.

Question

What area of Florence should I stay in?

Answer

The city center! The wedding venue is about 2km from the center, which is a 40 minute walk or a quick 15 minute car ride away. When booking a hotel or AirBnb you'll see areas listed as "Duomo, San Lorenzo, Santo Spirito, Santa Croce, Ponte Vecchio, Santa Maria Novella". All are in the city center and good areas!

Question

What is the best way to get around the city?

Answer

By foot! Florence is a very walkable city. Many of the iconic places are within a 30 minute walk. When your feet start to tire you can always sit down at a cafe and have an espresso or spritz to rejuvenate! You can also rent a bike or take the bus to explore further out.

Question

I want to travel around Italy, where should I go?

Answer

We've been getting this question a lot! Here is the breakdown of a 10 day trip Nina did with her mother in 2015: Day 1: Arrive in Milan, check out the Cathedral, museum & go shopping! Day 2: Travel to Venice, explore. Check out St. Mark's Basillica. Day 3: Explore the islands of Murano & Burano, known for glass & lace work respectively. Day 4: Travel to Florence, explore! Hit up the mercado, pack a picnic & hike up to Piazzale Michaelangelo or San Miniato for a sunset view of the city. Day 5: Uffizi Museum --> or whatever museum(s) interest you! Day 6: Daytrip to Cinque Terre. Day 7: Travel to Rome, take a walking tour or explore on own. Day 8: Colosseum & Forum Day 9: Vatican City --> Sistine Chapel, you must see it at least once in your life! Day 10: Depart. Don't forget to stop for espresso, spritz, & gelato along the way! For a more extension trip, give us a call!
