When We Met

Martell and I met on April 14, 2019. I was living in Alexandria, VA and he was living in Washington, DC. We were only a few miles apart and connected through a dating app. While he likes to say I messaged him first, I'm sure it was him because he is very straightforward with going after what he wants. After chatting for a while, he asked for my number. Right when he said hello, he had my total attention. He was interested, intrigued, and curious about who I was and was eager to connect. After a brief conversation, we agreed to meet. When I pulled up to his house my heart was racing and when he opened the door I couldn't stop smiling. I already had a good feeling but seeing him in person solidified that feeling. Call it cliché, but I knew he was the one the moment we embraced; He hasn't let go since.

The Proposal

Martell had thought of a million places and times to ask John this burning question, but home always seemed to be the best place. The question of all questions. Will you marry me? For months, Martell planned in secret an Engagement party masqueraded as a housewarming, to surprise his soon-to-be Fiance. He invited their closest loved ones and family members with only a few knowing what this romantic ruse actually was. The night was filled with drinks, games, and a special round of karaoke. The Karaoke culminated with Martell giving John a pitchy, yet affectionate rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing". Just as everyone was done giggling at the silly attempt, Martell signaled his best friend to give him the hidden engagement ring. As he dropped to one knee, John and his mom burst into tears. The words that followed were; "I want you to continue to be my forever home. You have saved my life and I just want to forever be in yours. Your name is tattooed on my heart, death cant tear us apart. I should've asked you the night I met you, but I'm asking now.I choose you as my lifelong companion, John T Robinson the 3rd, will you forever be my sunshine, will you marry me?" After nervously attempting to put the ring on the wrong finger, Martell found the right finger and John said YES. The bond was sealed with a kiss and remains to this day.
