John grew up in southern California, and London has been an Idaho resident all her life. They'd never heard of one another until their respective best friends decided to get married. London ended up being the Maid of Honor, and John the Best Man. They stalked each other a little on Facebook so they could talk about "wedding planning" and hit it off almost immediately. In July John drove up to Moscow for the wedding and they spent a week hanging out in coffee shops and driving around Moscow together. The morning before John left for home, he asked London out, and she told him no. He drove south again, but over the next weeks and months, they kept finding themselves in conversation again. They argued about politics, theology, the distance between them, culture, family, and anything else two people can reasonably have opinions on. Over the following year, they sorted through many of their disagreements and finally determined that they wanted to be together. They maintained their relationship through shipments of cookies, phone calls, film photographs, and letters while John finished his degree program. London visited for his graduation; and John visited around Christmas. After working for a while in California, John was hired by a Spokane, Washington company and packed up his belongings and moved north. Since then, they've been driving back and forth to see one another every weekend. It was during one of these trips that they got engaged, and they've been adventuring in Moscow and Spokane ever since.
