Our relationship began on a Wednesday — because apparently we don’t wait for the weekend to make major life decisions. What started as a casual midweek drink turned into the best plot twist of our lives. True to form, we kept the theme going and got engaged on a Wednesday, too. At this point, we’re convinced the middle of the week is where the magic happens. In the beginning, we were in a “long-distance” relationship: one of us in Capitol Hill, the other in Logan Circle. Technically both in Washington, D.C. Realistically separated by at least 25 very dramatic minutes of traffic and questionable Metro timing. But we prevailed and found a happy medium in Columbia Heights after moving in together. Meridian Hill Park started as our cut-through to work, to the gym, to friend’s. It also seemed like the perfect spot to bring a dog. Naturally, about a week after casually suggesting we might consider getting a dog at some point in the distant future, we brought home Ollie. We’ve always believed when you know, you know. (And when you see the right dog, you act fast.) The park soon became our favorite stop and eventually the best part of Ollie’s day, thanks to very serious games of fetch and his firm belief that every visit was a major event. We love traveling and have collected some favorite memories along the way: Sandals in Jamaica, Old Trafford in Manchester for a proper soccer pilgrimage, Baha Mar in the Bahamas, and many, many weddings that have made us even more excited for our own. That said, our favorite place might still be home — on the couch, crockpot working overtime, rewatching Jurassic Park for the hundredth time. From Capitol Hill-to-Logan “long distance” to building a life filled with parks, passports, puppies, and plenty of weeknight milestones, we’re so grateful for this story — and even more grateful to celebrate the next chapter with all of you.
