Our Story John and I meet through a mutual friend – Jimmy P. ( The prankster) I had been neighbors and friends with Jimmy and his wife Melanie for about 5 year. John knew Jimmy through the union ( Jimmy was one of his stewards). One night John and Jimmy were at a bar have a beer when John asked Jimmy if he knew any nice ladies. Jimmy thought for awhile and mentioned me. Jimmy then called me on the phone. He told me that he had a friend he wanted me to meet. My response was “Jimmy I am not interested in any of your married or unemployed friends.” Jimmy: No this is a really nice guy. Call Melanie and ask her. So I did. Melanie: Helen - He is a wonderfully guy, widowed and raising his granddaughter by himself. His works for the Toronto School board and is a head-care taker. Me : Ok but how old is the granddaughter? Melanie: 5 years old and a cute kid. Me: Ok have Jimmy arrange a meetup at the Irish pub in Brampton. DATE NIGHT Jimmy and Melanie were to meet up with John and I at the Irish Pub. Last minute they pulled out. I was already at the Pub and John was in the parking lot. Neither of us knew what the other looked like. John calls Jimmy asking for a description and is told “Look for the blonde with the biggest chest.” I call Jimmy and I won’t repeat the description I was given, only to say it wasn’t very helpful. John walks in with his phone glued to his ear so I figured out it was him. Truthfully I was expecting Bozo the clown with big feet and red nose. ( Let me explain – I had pranked Jimmy and Melanie really good 3 weeks before. Jimmy is well known for pulling pranks on everyone, so I was expecting payback. Seems I am still the reigning queen of pranks.) John and I hit it off right away. That was 16 years ago. We dated for 13 years until the pandemic when we decide I should sell my home in Brampton and move into his house in Etobicoke. We have be renovating ever since. This Christmas John bought me a engagement ring and it is now game on. We are both looking forward to seeing everyone at our wedding and it will be a party so bring your dancing shoes.
