Han and I first saw each other over The 4th of July weekend in 2012. We were in the dining hall of the camp where we spent many of our younger years. Han will tell you that she had her sights on me from that very first day! In 2014 I left Buffalo for college, and we were left to like each other's social media posts for the next four years with very little communication otherwise. When I graduated college I ended up moving back to Buffalo and into a house with Hannah's older brother, Dave, who is my (John's) good friend. Han started coming around the house a bit more during the summer of 2019, and we often ended up talking late into the evening. After a few months, I finally called her and asked her out.
Our first date involved a five hour conversation over some coffee and food and a little hike of the Eighteen Mile Creek in Hamburg. Over the course of the year, we had our first kiss over a Christmas puzzle we were completing, made lots of homemade pancakes (ask us for our recipe!), went on lots of walks, hammocked in almost every park in WNY, binged The Office, navigated a global pandemic, became best friends, and fell deeply in love. At the end of September, we took another little hike down to Eighteen Mile Creek, and I asked her to marry me.
John recently started a new job at Fresenius Kabi where he works as an associate scientist in the microbiology department focusing on quality control and environmental monitoring. Han continues to work as an occupational therapist both in a school setting with younger children and in an outpatient clinic where she treats older adults focusing on neurological and orthopedic conditions. We are both very excited about the future and plan to continue living in the Buffalo area for a while!
