Can I buy you a drink?

5 years ago, during the pandemic, lived two struggling young adults: John, a recent graduate finding his way into the working world, and Emily, a current student who had been sent home after the college dorms shut down. As time moved on and the world began to reopen, both John and Emily began working at their local liquor store (no, not the same store). When swiping on dating apps, John found a profile that caught his attention, noticing Emily was also working in the alcohol retail bizz, he sent her a message offering to discuss wine. Emily was intrigued after several failed dates before; she agreed to meet John for a drink and see if this would be any different. Sparks flew instantly and the two discovered many shared interests and life experiences. John walked her to her car but not before showing off his own car that he had bought himself. A Chrysler PT Cruiser, which Emily immediately started making fun of. Thinking she completely blew it after that John continued to text her and then went on several more dates. Excited and infatuated, Emily sat waiting for John to ask her to be his girlfriend, only to be disappointed when John politely and respectfully informed her that now was not a good time for a relationship. Time moved on, and the two stayed in touch casually, when one night John asked if Emily would like to get a drink. Emily was reluctant at first, not wanting to get rejected once more. But she enjoyed talking with him and decided it would be ok to get a drink with a friend; this was not a date. Though she really wanted it to be. And John wished the same. On Valentine's Day, a few weeks later, John came by Emily's store on his lunch break. She was not expecting anything on this romantic holiday as she was still unsure of what their relationship was. He surprised her with a bottle of wine with a rose carved on the bottom. That same bottle (now empty) still sits in their home as a decoration and reminder of their love story's start. Shortly after the two became an official couple, Emily became a staple fixture at John's gigs in the summer, and John was there every step of the way while Emily finished her schooling. They now live in their own apartment together with their cat Chad, a happy family of three where they live happily ever after.
