This park has the largest natural living sand dune on the East Coast. Two self-guided trails and nature programs available year-round. Hang gliding, kite flying, hiking, visitor's center, small gift shop, museum, picnic facilities and restrooms. A visitor center with museum is attached to a 360-foot boardwalk with exhibits explain the dune’s ecology and are a gradual entry to the massive dune field with no entry fees. Shoes and sun protection are recommended.

On December 17 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright achieved the first successful aeroplane flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Today, the 60ft high granite Wright Brothers National Memorial towers over the town of Kitty Hawk in the same location as the historic first flight.
