A black cat and a cop walk into a pregame. No joke, that’s how our story starts. It was our first post-college Halloween (hence the black cat and cop costumes). Anne was living in Madison, WI and John was in Bowling Green, OH (lucky him). Anne was working at a company with a lot of Michigan grads including her roommate, Lyndsey, and John's friend, Samir, whom he was visiting for the infamous Madison Halloween. Since Lyndsey also knew John and knew he was in town visiting, she suggested they stop by to say "hi" before continuing on with the night's shenanigans. The first thing John asked when they walked in was whether or not he should wear his undershirt. When Anne said “no” and he listened without question, her interest was immediately peaked. After hanging out that weekend and John going back home to Ohio (7 hours away from Madison), John asked Anne if he could come back a few weeks later and take her out on their first date. They hit it off and continued to keep in touch. While it might have taken some time (and a lot of miles on John’s car) to commit to the whole long-distance thing, they eventually decided to go for it and are so glad they did because 6 years, 3 cities, 2 homes and 1 pup later, they're getting married!
A little late in celebrating our 6th dating anniversary, John and I decided to make a reservation to go out to a nice dinner before meeting up with friends. John suggested we grab drinks at a bar near the restaurant beforehand meaning I should be ready early. This is something we commonly do so I didn't think anything of it. I was upstairs in our condo getting ready while John took Benny (our pup) out for a walk. I heard them come back and headed downstairs. I first saw Benny and noticed he was wearing a tie, quickly asking John why while simultaneously answering my own question. I burst into tears and John got down on one knee in front of the Christmas tree and popped the question. It wasn't until later when we watched back the video (that John secretly taped) to see that Benny was just as excited as the two of us and was jumping up on me the whole time. It was the perfect proposal in our home with my two boys.
