Part of my responsibilities at UCHealth was to field calls from the OR nursing staff in regard to surgical procedures. Over time, I would find myself getting excited when I saw the room Anna was working in that day on the caller id. Using my well rounded blend of sarcasm and dry humor I would give Anna a hard time for calling me. Anna made the mistake of laughing or giggling when I would do it, which of course forced me to continue with my antics. It went on like this for a while until one day I sent her something that she requested with a little extra, a post-it note. They were just silly little comments like “to Anna from John” or “for Anna only.” Whenever she would call down for a supply or a tray I would always send it up with a goofy post-it note. I was always looking for a reason to send her a silly little note. One day I built up the nerve to take it a step further, Anna called down for something she needed for her case, I quickly got the items together and as always added a post-it note, but this one had a question. The note simply asked “ are you made of copper and tellurium?” From there Anna was hooked. Thankfully, one day, Dr. Wyrick requested a dental pick for his case giving Anna a reason to call me. With a week off right around the corner Anna decided she didn’t want to go that long without us being able to communicate. She built up the nerve and on that Friday she called me for that dental pick that she needed for a case. She then added “ and write your number on the back of the post-it.” And thus the story began….
