One night in December of 2005, John-Michael and Elizabeth first met at Cathedral High School's Winter Dance. Shortly after they were introduced that night, John-Michael stole a kiss on the dance floor...little did they know, that would be the start to him stealing her heart forever. Almost a year later, John-Michael and Elizabeth went on their first date. He asked her to see a movie called "The Last Kiss" - how fitting! They went on several dates here and there but eventually drifted apart over the years. After high school, they attended Purdue University at the same time but ran in different circles. They occasionally saw each other in passing, but were dating other people at the time. After Elizabeth graduated from Purdue and John-Michael got back from Marine Corps Basic Training, they reconnected via Facebook and decided to catch up in Spring of 2014. Elizabeth had just gotten out of a serious relationship and wanted to take it slow; however, their feelings had a different plan. They fell so hard, so fast that it was very scary for them both. Elizabeth ultimately got scared and ran away from it, feeling like it was not the right time, and she wasn’t ready for that level of commitment. About a year later, the two were texting again and decided to meet up at the Indy 500. Enough time had passed, that they were willing to give it another shot. Maybe this would be the perfect time after all those years. On May 24th, 2015, they met up at the race track and the rest is history! They were finally both in the right place, at the right time and ready to let their love grow. Six weeks later, on July 10th, John-Michael asked Elizabeth to officially be his girlfriend on a camping trip. Within 6 months, they decided to move in together. In November of 2016, they rescued a sweet little puppy named Duke for John-Michael’s Birthday. (And by little puppy, they mean HORSE! He’s a Great Dane!) Although it’s been thirteen years in the making, it was most definitely worth the wait!
After dating for a little over two and a half years, John Michael popped the question in Gatlinburg, Tennessee while they were on a weekend getaway with friends. They had just gotten off the Ferris wheel at Pigeon Forge and were headed back to the truck to go back to the cabin, when John-Michael asked if his friend Stuart would take their photo real quick in front of the snowflake light display. When Elizabeth turned around, John-Michael got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She said yes!
