Maid of Honor
Mel and Syd always knew that they'd be each others' maids of honor. Sisters; best friends; the closest of confidantes. In the weeks before Sydney's passing, we went back and forth about our wedding. Should we go forward as planned? Should we cancel? Postpone? Ultimately, Syd made the decision: "You have to promise me you'll celebrate your wedding exactly as if I were there." We could never make or keep that promise. Our celebration could not be the same--or even close--without Sydney. But our decision to move forward is our best shot at doing right by her. As Syd taught us, when there are joyous things to celebrate and you can celebrate them, celebrate--don't wait. Syd may not be here in person, but she is still Mel's maid of honor.
