Before Johana even knew who Rani was, Rani would occasionally bring his real estate clients into Johana's work in southeast Austin. She was a leasing manager at an apartment community where he leased his first client. Their paths would cross multiple times from that day forward, but only for a few short moments. A year had passed since that first interaction when Rani invited Johana to his company's happy hour at Isla's in downtown Austin. The first spark struck that night where they were locked into conversation the whole evening, and ended with confirming a date for the following Saturday night. That first date unveiled more than they could have imagined, it was magical to say the least. In the month that followed, they had many more dates which quickly turned into being together everyday. Very few things would ever keep them apart from that day forward, but it all started at happy hour.
During the first marriage talks, Johana quickly expressed her love of emeralds. She would like an engagement ring from her place of birth, Bogota, Colombia. Fortunately, in the following spring Rani and Johana had already planned their second trip to Colombia together to visit her mother in Bogota. It was a 10-day journey to find the perfect ring. Since Rani’s Spanish was minimal, it was a team effort to diligently navigate the emerald district. Luckily, a few days before they were supposed to head home, he found the perfect ring. Rani’s secret original plan was to propose in Italy in the following fall, but with the ring being known to the Colombian Princess, Rani decided to act quickly. The following evening Rani arranged a proposal at a beautiful restaurant in the mountainside of Bogota. He had to act quickly to catch Princess Johana off guard. As the sun set in Bogota and with the serenading sounds of a musical trio, Rani dropped to one knee and asked Johana to be with him forever.
