Feel free to also stay at any close by air bnb’s or other hotels you may find but they are not as conveniently close to the beach as the resort. 3rd party sites may have competitive pricing as well since my link doesnt include the breakfast or all inclusive plan. 

I went to visit the resort in August and there are some good local places to eat such as Amigos Tacos and Beer right across the street so personally I will not be doing the all inclusive plan. The 5 o'clock restaurant at the resort is good but having other options such as Angelina's Steakhouse or Tango Sunsets Argentinian style food across the street are also great options! There is a small liqour store/mini mart next to amigos tacos and beer but all bottles are double the price that you would pay in the USA so please stock up for your room at the duty free airport shop or bring your own from home.
