"I don't think I want to go." It's a hot summer Tuesday. Camille has just gotten home from work and is now pacing the small living room of the Echo Park apartment she shares with her roommate Sommer. "He just seems too good to be true and I'm tired of being disappointed." She'd been messaging this guy nonstop for two weeks as he traveled around the Mojave desert on a film job. They both worked downtown and had been within a few miles of each other when they matched on Bumble. For two weeks they wrote each other all day, every day. Tonight they were finally supposed to meet. Sommer, supportive and wise beyond her years, reminds Camille that she can always come right back. They were just meeting down the street after all. "Text me if it's going wrong and I'll call you with some excuse for you to come home." Alright, that settled it. Camille hurries to get ready. She throws on her favorite baggie jeans, laces up her thrifted boots, grabs her fringe purse, and then makes her way down the hilly neighborhood to the bar around the corner. As she nears Sunset Beer, she sends a quick text to let him know she's walking up. She looks up and sees a tall guy with dark disheveled hair and a kind sun-kissed face leaning against the trunk of his car. A wave of relief washes over her and she smiles -- "Joey?" ... A few beers and hours of board games and banter later, Camille agrees to let Joey drive her home. The conversation and laughter had flowed freely all night and she couldn't help but feel at ease with him. "We should do this again," he says, looking away nervously. They quickly make plans to meet two days later. They say their goodbyes and Camille makes her way up the stairs to her apartment, her face flushed and cheeks burning from smiling. She texts him within the hour. She has no game, and she doesn't even care.

"We did it!" It's five years later, almost exactly, and they've just finished climbing to the top of the highest mountain in the contiguous U.S., Mount Whitney. It had been a dream of theirs for years, one that took a couple attempts and years of planning and preparation. Camille had just come up over the edge of the summit to a crowd of hikers that had gathered to watch them finish the climb. Already crying, she throws herself into Joey, who laughs as he squeezes her. At 14,508 feet, they feel on top of the world, and just for this short while, they are removed from the plight of this unprecedented year. "Come on, let's get our summit photo." Joey finds a boy scout with his dad to ask if one of them would take their photo. Meanwhile, Camille, who has absolutely no clue what is about to happen, picks up the summit sign and immediately questions her decision to hold it as she remembers she doesn't have any hand sanitizer and, oh yeah, they're in the middle of a pandemic. But suddenly, Joey is back beside her and they're both smiling at the camera pointed their way. "Is there a red button blinking in the corner?" Joey asks. "Yeah!" "Ok good, because Camille, I'm actually here to ask you to marry me." Camille turns to see Joey getting down on one knee and pulling something from his pocket. "NO YOU'RE NOT!" She responds, stunned. Unable to hide the emotion in his voice, Joey tells Camille that yes, he is in fact asking her to marry him, and no, he can't imagine his life without her. Joey would later say that he blacked out and can't remember a thing that came out of his mouth in those few minutes. Then there's a giant pause. Camille is crying. "Well are you going to ask me?!" Joey laughs, "Will you marry me?" Camille says, "Yes!" The crowd goes wild! They are met with a flood of congratulations from the mountain top.
