How We Met

First comes friendship, then comes marriage.

As many of you may know, we grew up in church together at none other than New Mount Olive Baptist Church originally located at 1402 N. Market St Wilmington, DE 19801. In middle school, Joerell had a crush on Ja'Lisa and at that time, Ja'Lisa was not feeling him and as Joerell would say, "Ja'Lisa curved me." Moving forward, we went to separate high schools (Wildcats vs. Cougars), however we remained friends and towards the end of our senior year in high school, Ja'Lisa started having feelings for her soon to be husband! On June 3, 2013, Ja'Lisa invited Joerell to Warmdaddy's for a family outing and after that night, its history! God knew exactly what he was doing, patience is a virtue!

The Proposal

February 23, 2019

One Friday evening, Joerell and Ja'Lisa went to his brothers house where family and friends were gathered to have a good time! While the party was going, Joerell and Byron had a conversation and was waiting for the right moment for Joerell to pop the question. A little after 1 am, Kandice went and got Ja'Lisa and in that moment, she had a feeling and immediately told Kandice, "he cannot do this tonight, my hair is not done, my nails are not done!" Kandice replied, "Girl, come on!" So at their house, amongst maybe 5 of the many people there, Joerell expressed his love to Ja'Lisa, got down on one knee and popped the question! As you know, of course she said "YES!" because here we are!
