"Out with weekly Vegas trips, in with yearly NY trips I chose this picture, not just because it’s cute, but this was the day we landed in New York- my first day visiting and her first day starting her new chapter in life. We got even closer, and I also got to know Joel (not pictured) better. Rachel and I stayed in an apartment in Harlem with her roommate, which became her new home for a few weeks. Rachel and Joel made sure I got the most out of my one week trip, so we did all the touristy activities, all the local activities, a little day trip to Philadelphia, and a little trip to Jersey City. One of the best times of my life and the time I knew Joel was the right one for Rachel. "

"My fondest memory of my brother is when he was really little, less than 5 years old. He loved sweets. He thought the package of salt was sugar and he chugged it super fast. He was not a happy toddler"

Michelle Jiz de Ortega

Matron of Honor

"My favorite memory growing up with Rachel is ditching her when we played Barbies. I would tell her that my Barbie was going on a business trip and would leave to talk to my friends on the phone (mind you - Rachel and I are 8 years apart). Just kidding… my favorite memory with Rachel is our sister shopping trips! We, along with our other sister Monique, would spend the whole day at the mall going store to store and shop until we dropped. No sister shopping trip was complete without lunch at Red Robin restaurant for some clucks and fries! I love you Rachie and I’m so excited to stand next to you as one of your Matron of Honors! "

"Rachel and Joel were planning a cross country trip from New Jersey to California. Abby and I pushed and pushed them to pack in as many detours to national parks as possible. National parks something that I (and my wife) love... So we try to share it with as many people as we can. We also told them to make sure to get a passport (which they didn't do and now regret). Just being part of that planning and watching Joel post his "Hey guys!" Videos made me feel like I was part of it. And that's the one thing about Joel that I saw from day 1... He looks to include everyone and doesn't let others feel left out. That attribute is something that I know he will use to care for and love my sister. We still push them to go to as many national parks as possible and live vicariously through them 😁"

"A fun memory with you would be when a surprise engagement party was planned for you and my brother . You thought it was for Larissa’s birthday and it was really for you! You walked in unknowingly and your face was priceless ! It was a special moment to celebrate you! 💕 Family First"

"During childhood, Gil and I used to travel to Piscataway to Joel’s house every summer. I will always remember the fun we had together playing basketball, riding bikes to Quickcheck and playing videos games. We copied and memorized the lyrics to “Triumph” by Wutang Clan. We raced to see who got the most gold “chocobos” in Final Fantasy 7. Forever, I will see Joel as my younger brother who had a funny-looking mushroom haircut wearing white tank-tops with Tito slippers. That’s the Joel I know, that’s the kid I will always love and care about. #Bars"

Monique de Jesus Montilla

Matron of Honor

"I was so excited when Rachel was born. I thought she was the cutest baby in the world and I always wanted to take care of her. When she would sleep, I constantly checked on her to see if she was awake. After the 5th or 6th time sneaking into the room and peering over the crib; I would usually make noise to see if she would wake. The slightest movement and I would pick her up and announce " RACHEL IS AWAKE!" (sorry Mom). It was so fun to take care of her and make her giggle."

"My favorite memory with Rachel is when me and my sister took her around Jersey City to show her all the places Joel grew up in. We took pictures of her in front of every house he lived in! We went to the Bodega and bought Joel snacks and ended up taking her to the ghetto Rainbow store on Central Ave so she can pick a fun memorable piece to remember our day! Fun fact: she also introduced me to Mezcal and I now love drinking it!"

Tom Holland

Groomsman

"There are many many great ones (memories) with you guys obviously, lots of dinners, trips, nights spent drinking too much and not wanting to go home...one that stands out is DC oysterfest, where we did mad bro stuff like rippin oysters and drinking craft beer, and dancing to level up wearing animal print robes. "

Karina Holland

Bridesmaid

"So many fun memories with you! From our random happy hours and dinners, concerts, trips, game nights, and for being there for each other’s biggest milestones in life! But my favorite fun memory of us is when we hung out for a day while the boys were away for Tom’s bachelor party. We went to brunch and cried a lot because we were talking of how much we love our moms! LOL. Then we went to another bar and ended up at your place eating Jollibee! These are my usual memories with you, life talks, eating and drinking, and doing random activities, and I can’t wait to do more of these with you! LL4EVA!!"

"The year was '03 or '04, we were at a youth retreat and I was getting a shower in before we wrapped up the weekend. I thought how nice for me to have a little private moment to myself. Joel pops his head in the door and said “Damn I gotta poop. Do you care if I poop while you shower?” Me being 14, not knowing any better, and not wanting to have this guy be all constipated on us I said “uhh- sure go ahead.” We ended up cracking jokes and talking the whole time. It was one of the moments that I thought to myself, “ok, he’s a pretty nice guy, and easy to talk to”, because I thought he’d be too cool for me, since he was a little older. Joel then wrapped up and said “Well that wasn’t awkward at all". I was left to finish my shower on my own, as I would have liked, and ponder the experience."

MC Makk

Bridesmaid

"A lot of my favorite memories of Rachel are usually when we're hiking together. We're always singing, "America the Beautiful '' or any other patriotic songs. One of my favorite memories of her is when we were at the end of our hike in Acadia National Park. We were descending down, while a father & son were ascending up on the mountain. As we said our hellos, and literally were crossing paths with them, Rachel breaks her nail and yells out a funny profanity in front of the family then immediately apologizes profusely. "

Groomsman

"From Grand Banks and Volstead to Hawaii, Jamaica, and Europe, so many years of friendship I can’t even count. From throwing a McDonald’s soda on a passing car, breaking side view mirrors, pulling me out of a random cab in the city, Tuesday nights at Pianos, so many hilarious moments. Too many memories but you were always there for all the good ones. No one I’d trust more to have my back and got you whenever, wherever."

Francine Biton

Bridesmaid

"Too many fun memories! From doing our nails in college, struggling with Econ, going out to DTF Or when we trained for the 1/2 marathon and you were living in Silver Lake. And then all of the Vegas trips. Or when I visited you in New York and we spent the whole day out at that bar. And then Joel had to pick us up all crazy."

"Shortly after I met Rachel in our first year of college, I remember telling myself, “I really like her!” I felt an instant vibe with her. But, it wasn’t until a couple years later during our last year in college (she was at UCI & I was at SFSU), that we got really close. I’ll never forget that one infamous trip she and our other close friends took to San Francisco to visit me in college. From that weekend on, we’ve had many more trips together (especially to Vegas), a million laughs, & some of the best conversations. It’s hard to pick one great memory. She’s been a consistent friend & presence in my life even now that she’s thousands of miles away. So honored to be your bridesmaid, Rach!"

Raphael Reyes

Groomsman

"My relationship with Joel surpasses and transcends friendship.  For as long as i have known him, I have always introduced him as my brother, and that’s who he is, and always will be to me.  I’ll have to write a book, an entertaining one at that, to even share mere highlights of the times we’ve spent together.  I am ecstatic that he found and will marry his best friend Rachel, and that she officially becomes my sister too.  But at the core of it all, Joel is my ride or die lil brother... except that time when he ran faster than me when we were chased after getting caught stealing brownies at Qdoba."

Marilu Reyes

Bridesmaid

"It was hard for me to pick just 1 photo of us two. We've had sooo many funnn times that i'm crying (Laughing and crying lol) reminiscing on all our times together. i miss us Emoji anyways, the picture that I chose was when we lived in our Silverlake apartment together. Although it was short, I cherish the time because it helped me to get to know you better and bond us for life. You were a great roommate and i am forever grateful for our friendship "

After knowing Joel for 20+ years its really hard to single out my favorite specific memory. Thinking back I get flashbacks: from dancing to King of the Dance hall at Fr3sh auditions, speeding down to Philly for performances, selling to the ladies at Esprit ( Joel's go to "that would look great with some pumps and a camisole") to partying in NYC, LA, MIA and Vegas always down to get down, traveling and hiking Acadia and Joshua tree, always cooking up a storm, experimenting food techniques feeding our love for food literally. I seriously could go on and on and I still wouldn't be able to touch the surface of all the memories. Joel has been the epitome of a true friend turned brother always looking out for me, motivating and inspiring me to be better.

Monica Sixon Tolentino- Nacion

Bridesmaid

"We studied MEAT together remember? Our butcher class! That was definitely a moment where I knew Rachel was one of my girls for life! Besides how much fun she makes any situation, that night she showed me to never be afraid to speak my mind and to never be afraid to ask questions. No matter what it may be, like how tall cows are haha! It's moments like these that I will always cherish and luckily for us we have a lifetime of memories! Cheers to an amazing friendship...sisterhood! Let's put on our crowns and always eat like queens together!"
