We met for the first time over Kaila's favorite meal, breakfast. We found ourselves being the only patrons in the diner that evening and were seated at a very large, circular booth. We sat at either end, quite a distance apart from each other, nervous giggling. Fast forward to 5 hours (yes, literally 5) of non-stop talking, laughing and smiles over Western omelettes....we found ourselves sat side by side at the center of the booth. We both parted ways that evening with sore cheeks from smiling, an insane amount of things in common and plans to meet again soon.
We were busy packing for our trip to Ireland set for the following week, tying up loose ends and spending our last weekend with Renley before we left. Joel suggested we head out to the cabin (the place you could say we truly fell in love) to test out his camera settings so they would be dialed for our trip. Kaila thought nothing of this, as this was a typical thing for Joel to want to do. When the three of us arrived (Renley too) it was pouring. We ran into the cabin to wait out the rain and see if we would be able to manage some photos. The rain cleared up almost immediately and Joel got to work setting up the GoPro and camera tripod. He pulled Kaila out into the field with Renley to take some photos when he got down on one knee and as he puts it, "blacked out" during his heartfelt words. After the proposal, Joel led Kaila to a set up with a final surprise: celebratory champagne and an engagement photo shoot he booked for us at the Cliffs of Slieve League in Ireland. He also shared the background story of Kaila's ring, which he designed himself. It was pretty epic.
