The story of how a small-town girl from South Carolina fell in love with a nurse assistant from Pennsylvania. Elisa, a freshman, and Joel, a new transfer at North Greenville University both enrolled in a General Chemistry class Fall of 2023. It was very fitting for two people to fall in love. But how did it come to be? Well, it all started when Elisa was struggling in her General Chemistry class. So, she decided to ask the smart boy in her class for help. For weeks Joel would help Elisa with her homework in a study group and slowly they began to hangout more and more. Then on a random night, Joel asked Elisa for her number and Elisa was ecstatic. Later, Joel and Elisa kept talking and hanging out as friends. Until one faithful night Joel asked Elisa out on a date. He said, “My friend can’t make it to this Brandon Lake concert, would you like to go with me?” Due to this question, Elisa did not think it was a date. The day came and Elisa was a little nervous because all her friends and family were telling her that it was a date, but she simply could not fathom it. So, to convince her that it was a date, her friend Kyleigh told her, “If it is a date, he will pay for your food.” On their way, Joel and Elisa were chatting about their day when they arrived at Chipotle. Now Elisa had never been to Chipotle, but she was very excited to try it with Joel. Once they arrived, they got their food and Joel paid for Elisa’s food. That is when she began to get a bit nervous. As they were eating the two were chatting when Joel asked Elisa what her thoughts were about relationships. They talked about it for a bit and then Joel popped the big question and asked Elisa to be his girlfriend. Elisa was not expecting this and therefore became quite nervous and as her first response thought it would be appropriate to say, “I don’t know.” Joel kept his hopes up, but his heart had shattered. Nevertheless, they went on their way to the concert. Before the concert started Joel asked Elisa to take a picture together for his mom, and Elisa agreed. The two had a great time at the concert and off they were on their way back to campus. On their route, Elisa was still very nervous, but she told Joel that she did have feelings for him. But she would feel more confident in starting a relationship with him if he talked to her brother, Jose. After a couple of weeks, Joel talked to Jose and Elisa was left clueless over their conversation. Elisa by nature is a very curious person so she couldn’t help but ask both Jose and Joel what their conversation was about. But tragically they both refused to disclose their conversation. The boys had their conversation on the Tuesday before thanksgiving. Afterwards Joel went back to Philly for thanksgiving while Elisa stayed at her home in South Carolina. The Sunday before classes Elisa returned to school and she was a bit nervous about seeing Joel again because she thought it may be a bit awkward after he talked to Jose. She believed the only way to make sure that it wasn’t awkward was to ask him out on a date. Although she was nervous to ask him on a date, she did and he said, “I was going to ask you to eat with me on Monday.” She said yes and gave a sigh of relief. Monday came and they went on to eat at Monterrey Mexican Restaurant. That is where Joel once again popped the big question and asked her to be his girlfriend.
