Fun street with a mix of high-end and cutsy shops to see. Lots of restaurants with coffee & tea shops along the way. We highly recommend Trident Booksellers Cafe right on Newbury St.!!! Our favorite brunch spot that also has an extensive lunch menu. Insider Recommendation: Get brunch at Trident Booksellers and walk Newbury St. all the way to the Boston Public Garden.
Joel's favorite coffee shop!!! They have a few locations - we often visit the one on Washington St. but they also have a location on Newbury St.
Perfect for a summertime stroll! If you've never been to Boston before, this is a top outdoor spot to go to.
Most photographed street in America! (Google it!!) "Acorn Street, located in Boston's historic Beacon Hill neighborhood, is famous for being one of the most photographed streets in America. Known for its narrow, original cobblestone pathway and charming, well-preserved 19th-century Federal-style row houses, it offers a glimpse into the city's past. The street is a private, residential, and picturesque spot featuring gaslit lamps and seasonal decorations."
Faneuil Hall is an indoor food court building with surrounding outdoor space to eat and shop. Historic and picturesque spot -- classic/must-see Boston tourist spot. Summer street performers make it a lively and fun place to walk around! Combine the Freedom Trail tour, a visit to the Boston Tea Party Museum, and food/walk around Faneuil Hall for a classic historic Boston day!
Boston has SO much history as the first city in the United States! Totally recommend booking a guided walking tour of parts or all of the Freedom Trail to learn about the major historical spots along the way! "The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile, marked path through downtown Boston, the North End, and Charlestown that connects 16 key historic sites, including museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, and parks. Established in 1951, it showcases locations critical to the American Revolution, such as the Paul Revere House, Old North Church, and Faneuil Hall. The route is marked by a red line—often bricks or paint—on the sidewalk and is easily walkable, often taking 2–3 hours to complete."
"Boston is one of the oldest (founded in 1630) and most historically significant cities in the United States. Often called the 'Athens of America,' it was a central hub for the American Revolution and holds numerous, critical national "firsts" in education, public infrastructure, and transportation." This museum is dedicated to learning how Boston began the revolution against British control. Super fun, immersive & interactive museum -- great for kids!
Boston's Little Italy! Get amazingly good Italian food and stop at the famous Mike's Pastry for cannolis or Modern Pastry for yummy treats. "The North End is Boston’s oldest residential community, a 0.36-square-mile waterfront neighborhood widely known as "Little Italy". It is characterized by narrow, historic streets, over 100 Italian restaurants and cafes, and major Revolutionary War-era sites like the Paul Revere House and Old North Church."
Indoor mall with variety of stores and restaurants. Go to the Top of the Pru for 360 views of the city! (discounted tickets on Groupon) -- We did this for our first Valentine's Day together :)
Boston is home to the BEST SPORTS TEAMS. TD Garden is home to the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins. Many concerts are hosted at TD Garden as well if you're interested in going to an event while you're here! Fun fact: Boston's sports team have accumulated more playoff wins (268) than any other US city since the turn of the century -- winning 13 major professional championships across the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL.
Fenway Park is home to the Boston Red Sox and is the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball, having opened in 1912. You can catch a Red Sox game or book a guided tour of the historic ballpark! Fun Fact: The owners of the Boston Red Sox also own Liverpool Football Club, Joel's all time favorite soccer team!
Beautiful and serene museum we both love (though we've never been together). If you plan to go, let us know! We might be able to snag you free tickets through our local library ;)
Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, located in Cambridge, MA. Take a stroll around campus and/or it's surroundings! Cambridge is a fun place to walk around with restaurants and plenty of stores with Harvard attire nearby.
We went on our first date here! Top rated Mexican food in East Boston, which is the neighborhood of Boston where Carolyn grew up!
