The Match
We met the old-fashioned way: online. Rachel’s profile said she was looking for her Robbie Hart, and Joe, a fellow theatre nerd, wrote back, “What a killer Act One finale.” She was hooked.
April 20, 2022
The First Date
We planned to meet at “the fountain at the Plaza” before dinner at The Smith. Joe waited patiently at the fountain on the Lincoln Center plaza. Rachel waited at the fountain outside the Plaza Hotel. Once we finally found each other, dinner turned into hours of walking and talking through Lincoln Center and Central Park.
October 19, 2026
The Proposal
Joe knew two things: he wanted to propose in Amsterdam, and Rachel is a notorious present-shaker who would absolutely find a ring in his luggage. So weeks before the trip, he handed it off to our friend Brenna, who carried it from New York to North Carolina to Amsterdam and passed it to a Dutch photographer and a French violinist just before they boarded the boat. Out on the canals, with music playing, Joe got down on one knee, and Rachel said yes!
