All wedding events will be at Gran Villa Rosa. This is an old castle and vineyard built in 1460. It is about 15 minutes from two cities much smaller than Barcelona, Vilanova and Sitges. Sitges is located on the sea and has a beautiful downtown that we loved exploring. Check out the "things to do" page for some recommendations of where to explore. Vilanova is a bit bigger and is closer to the mountains.
Here are some tips for getting a taxi from Barcelona Airport to Eurostars Hotel Sitges: The hotel address is: Eurostars Hotel Av. Camí de Miralpeix, 12, 08870, Sitges There are 3 common taxi options to use in Barcelona; the official taxi stand, Uber, or Rideshare app called Cabify. We found taxis to be the most prevalent. Ubers were more challenging to get. Cabify worked well, but you need to download the app and add your passport information. When leaving the airport, look for the official taxi stand: There are official taxi stands located immediately outside the airport terminals when you exit baggage claim. Ask for a price estimate: Before getting into a taxi, ask the driver for a price estimate. This will help you avoid being overcharged. There are two routes to Sitges, mountain or highway. We took the highway route, and it was faster and scenic. If you opt for the highway route the taxi will add an additional charge for the toll booth. It should be 12-16 euro. In total, our taxi was about 75 euro.
We will be providing all transportation to the wedding events. However, if you want to go to downtown Sitges, we recommend getting a taxi. The easiest way to get a taxi is to have your hotel call it for you. Additionally, all restaurants and bars can call you a taxi. If you are within Sitges, you can use this number and call your own taxi, however, you must know what street you are on so they can pick you up in the right place. +34 938 94 13 29
There is a train, bus or taxi option to go to downtown Barcelona.
Pickpocketing is very prevalent in crowded European cities. Be very aware of your phone, wallet and other belongings. Do not have your phone out in very touristy and crowded spaces. Do not walk looking at your phone or have it in your back pocket. We have heard this is more common in downtown Barcelona. Sitges is a much smaller city, and we felt very safe at all times.
We have Verizon and ATT and when we traveled this winter, we used the international plans periodically. Depending on your plan, it is $10-12 per day for usage. If you prefer not to use the international plan, WIFI is available essentially everywhere upon request. We found connecting to WIFI very easy.
When in Sitges, most shop owners, waiters, and hotel staff spoke at least a little English. Some of the taxi drivers did not speak as well, but they were very kind and helpful. You can show them on a map, and they will take you where you need to go.
We brought a little euro in cash to Spain; however we could use credit and debit cards essentially everywhere. Some shops here do not take American Express credit cards, so have a backup Mastercard or Visa available in case.
