In December 2011, Renee started a new clerical position at the Prison where Joe had been working as a Correctional Officer since 2004.
After 3-years of friendship, in September 2014, we decided to meet at a local park for a “doggy-date”. We both have fury companions; Joe has a female, shepard/pitbull mix named Sadie Mae and Renee has a male, springerdoodle named Baxter.
We’ve always talked about having a place of our own with room to run. Even in the beginning of our relationship, there was talk of having chickens and growing large gardens with fresh food. After moving a few times, we’re finally where we need to be! God blessed us with 13-acres of land where we will build our future home! The property is currently in the beginning stages. We had a lot of work to do (and still do) cleaning up the land from what others left behind. We’ve made so much progress since July 2017. Our goals this year is to focus on the existing well on the property as well as complete the septic test. We’re also extremely fortunate to have amazing people in our lives that believe in our dream and have stuck by us and helped in so many ways! (Thank you!) Through close friends, we managed to find and rent a house 2 miles from the property, which allows us to take care of our chickens everyday with ease. There are 12-chickens on our Homestead with a beautiful coop (constructed by Joe). We strive to live a more simple and self-sufficient lifestyle. This brings us an abundance of happiness and we’re so grateful to have these gorgeous acres!
