Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Jody Kidney and Kirk Schmidt
Kirk and Jody joining in with The Kraken All-Stars for "Mama Tried" at the Merle Haggard Tribute Show last year. The Chuck Berry Tribute was even more epic this year and these are the folks performing the first set of music tonight!

The Kraken

2823 North Carolina Highway 54 West, Chapel Hill, NC 27516

Yeah, this is the historic roadhouse bar and music venue. Jody and Kirk are the latest caretakers and have brought The Kraken into the modern age! This is our joint and it has so much character and so many characters...

Cat’s Cradle

300 East Main Street, Carrboro, NC 27510
, (919) 967-9053

The Cat's Cradle is not quite as historic as our divebar, The Kraken, but Frank has hosted way bigger bands over the years than we can ever hope to have on our humble stage. Frank Heath is pretty much everyone's quiet mentor for booking great music and rocking the Tar Heels within North Carolina and many states beyond! It's an honor to host our NC Wedding Celebration here. Big thanks!!!!

Saxapahaw General Store

1735 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road, Saxapahaw, NC 27340
, (336) 376-5332

An artisanal country store that boasts an amazing "Foodie" menu all day long.with laid-back tables to eat and witness diverse folks. The salmon fish tacos and the veggie reubens are a couple of our faves. Lots to look at or buy if you have spare change. We enjoy the regular Stitch 'n Bitch sessions with ladies who talk about where they are volunteering to do good works for the world.

The Eddy Pub & Restaurant

Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road, Saxapahaw, NC 27340
, (336) 525-2010

Amazing meals with local produce and a creative menu. Time your visit to check out the sunset over the Haw River Valley! A little bit pricey, but not too bad if you split apps and meals.

Carrboro Farmers Market

301 West Main Street, Carrboro, NC 27510
, (919) 280-3326

Ackland Art Museum

101 South Columbia Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27599
, (919) 966-5736

Crook's Corner

610 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516
, (919) 929-7643

Featuring Bill Smith, one of several James Beard award-winning chefs in the area... Shrimp and grits are spectacular as well as everything else! Unfortunately the honeysuckle sorbet will be out of season. Kirk and family used to eat at this location in the late 70s when it was the best Southern BBQ restaurant in town, "The Pink Pig". The pig sculpture still exists at the entrance.

Merritt's Grill

1009 South Columbia Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27514
, (919) 942-4897

Best BLT in the world...

Squid's Restaurant

1201 Fordham Boulevard, Chapel Hill, NC 27514
, (919) 942-8757

The place to get fresh seafood in the Triangle! Kirk's first job in Chapel Hill was here starting around 1989 and they've consistently been very good people with a very good menu and have improved over the years.

Al's Burger Shack

516 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516
, (919) 904-7659

Best burgers in town and right around the corner!

Pittsboro

Pittsboro, NC 27312

Twenty minute drive south of town, with plenty of character, antiques, and fun little joints filled with fine characters.

Mystery Brewing Public House

230 South Nash Street, Hillsborough, NC 27278
, (919) 245-1325

One of our three amazing local brewers who supply our draught beer... Great people and great beers way beyond our capacity to stock. Also next door to Hillsborough BBQ. :)

Hillsborough

Hillsborough, NC 27278

Fifteen minute drive to a historic Southern town and North Carolina Orange County Capital. Lots of history and historic buildings, good food and breweries and people.

Merritt's Pasture

Morgan Creek Trail, Chapel Hill, NC 27517

Good birding on this trail on the edge of town!

Weaver Street Market

101 East Weaver Street, Carrboro, NC 27510
, (919) 929-0010

Weaver Street Market is the center of local high-tech-liberal-hippy community where folks gather on the lawn for music and share time with friends and let children and dogs run free. They have a great local organic food bar, but we tend to dig the salad bar. Get some food and beverages (including wine and beer) and sit at a table in the center of the most liberal lawn in North Carolina.
