The Beginning

June 22, 2016

Like many relationships these days, ours started online. Cupid, aka OKcupid, struck! Andrew messaged first asking for a few giraffe fun facts hinted on Jody's profile and the rest is history. We went on our first date on June 22nd, 2016 - a very hot summer Wednesday for happy hour. In Philadelphia, summer Wednesdays have a thing called SIPS which means bars are often PACKED during happy hour. Our initial plan of drinks on the rooftop of The Continental needed to quickly be adjusted due to crowds as well as plans B and C when we realized that any bar in Center City area would not be ideal for quiet conversation. Sweaty and stressed (at least Jody was), we took the subway out of Center City and grabbed drinks at Prohibition Taproom and then walked around Fairmount. Jody says she was amazed by Andrew's abundance of knowledge, witty banter, and immediately felt comfortable around him. Andrew says he was drawn to Jody's sense of humor, good heart, and ability to stay cool and flexible during that first date.

The Proposal

June 21, 2019

Fairly early on, when Jody and Andrew started going to their friends' weddings. Jody asked if it would be ok to be the one to propose when the time came. Andrew said "sure." End of discussion. Jody put the plan in place before our 3rd anniversary and planned it for the day before to throw Andrew off. Both planned to take the day off work to celebrate but Jody packed a bag of surprises to bring to Spruce Street Harbor. Jody gave Andrew his "anniversary" present which was a green teapot filled with small items (related to inside jokes and important parts of our relationship), two rings, and a proposal letter. Those who watch The Office might recognize the reference. Obviously, since we're here, he said yes! We celebrated with mini champagne bottles before a celebratory lunch at The Farmacy restaurant near by.
