We met in 2016 at Ultra, but let us set the scene properly: the music was electric, the crowd was buzzing, and Jacob? Well, Jacob was busy being a walking annoyance, frantically searching for his friend’s lost phone. Somehow, in his mission to find the lost phone, he found Jodie. At first, Jodie was unimpressed with Jacob constantly bumping into her, but somewhere between his panicked charm and his determination, she didn’t stay annoyed for long. Our first date started well; out of all the restaurants in Joburg, he managed to pick a restaurant catered perfectly to my endless list of food preferences and intolerances (high maintenance? Who, Jodie?). However, minutes into the date, Jacob managed spill his entire drink all over the table! It was a messy beginning to what would become a humour-filled relationship, always full of teasing and laughter. By our second date, it was Jodie's turn for some drama. Thanks to a pothole (South African roads never disappoint), she showed up embarrassingly late with a flat tire. Jacob, being Jacob, waited nervously but patiently, proving once again that he was something special. By the end of that night, neither of us wanted to say goodbye. And really, we never did.
