Gene and Jodee LOVE the National portrait Gallery. They have visited no fewer than 10 times since they have been together, and even had their indoor engagement photos taken at the Gallery! While you’re there, don’t forget to swing by the America’s Presidents exhibit on the second floor, and say hi to our buddy Barack with his vibrant portrait painted by Kehinde Wiley as well as stop by the third floor to see Michelle’s inspirational portrait painted by Amy Sherald. (UPDATE: Unfortunately for us, the Obama's portraits are on tour at this time. However, the Portrait Gallery is still one of our favorite museums in DC to visit!)
As our good buddy, Roy Wood Jr. says, “It’s for the culture!” All jokes aside, this is hands down, our favorite Smithsonian Museum. You could spend three whole days in “The Museum,” as the locals call it, and still not see everything! We suggest starting in the basement and working your way up. We challenge you to go in with an open mind, read as much as you can, learn as much as you can, and just try not to cry…too much.
Union Market is a “melting pot” of DC goodness! This enclosed market (i.e., heated and air conditioned as well as sheltered from the rain) has countless food stalls offering all types of food! You can get doughnuts, empanadas, high tea, fish and chips and Okonomiyaki all under one roof! Union Market also sells fresh local produce, meats, fish, baked goods and locally made home goods and décor.
It is a well-known fact that Jodee and Gene love good food and drink! St. Anslem is located near Union Marketand is a delicious steakhouse with the best biscuits either Jodee or Gene has ever tasted. And that’s saying A LOT, especially since Gene has lived in Atlanta.
It is a well-known fact that Jodee and Gene love good food and drink! Unconventional Diner is just across the street from the wedding venue (Longview Gallery.) Their approach to food is unique but approachable and always scrumptious. Unconventional Diner serves brunch and dinner every day, including weekdays!
