Such a cute little river town and definitely worth the short drive if you have some free time. River Ridge Brewery A must-stop if you like craft beer. It’s a brewery right on the Mississippi River with great drinks, a relaxed vibe, and beautiful river views. Bellevue State Park This park has insane views. It honestly feels like you’re on top of a small mountain looking out over the Mississippi River — perfect for photos, hiking, or just taking it all in. Off Shore Bar & Grill A fun, laid-back bar right on the river. There’s even a little beach area behind it, which makes it a great spot to hang out, grab a drink, and enjoy the scenery. Shops & Strolling Bellevue also has some really cute local shops and places to wander around! Only about a 15 - 20 minute drive from Maquoketa.

Dubuque, IA

A fun river city with lots to do if you want a little more going on — great for a day trip or evening out. Fenelon Place Elevator Company This is a super unique Dubuque thing. It’s a short, historic funicular (basically a tiny cable railway) that takes you up a steep bluff for amazing views of the city and the Mississippi River. Quick, fun, and totally worth it. Mississippi Riverwalk A really nice walking path along the river — perfect for a stroll, people-watching, or just enjoying the views and fresh air. Diamond Jo Casino If you’re feeling lucky, this is a popular casino right on the river with slots, table games, and a lively atmosphere. Old Downtown Dubuque Full of charm and history, downtown has beautiful old buildings, local shops, and lots of character. Great for walking around and exploring. Food, Drinks & Shopping There are tons of great restaurants, breweries, bars, and shops throughout Dubuque — you’ll definitely find something you love. Only about 35 minute drive!

Such a fun and charming town — and it’s only about a 50-minute drive from Maquoketa, making it an easy day trip. Ulysses S. Grant Home If you like history (or just beautiful old homes), this is worth a visit. It’s President Grant’s historic home and a cool glimpse into the past. Historic Main Street This is the heart of Galena and the most fun part. The main strip is full of super cute shops, restaurants, and cafés. It kind of feels like a Midwest version of King Street in Charleston — very charming and walkable. Galena Trolley Tours A fun and easy way to see the town, especially if you don’t want to walk everywhere. You’ll get great views and learn a little history along the way. Alpine Slides Such a blast if you’re looking for something different. The slides are on a giant hill (almost like a small mountain) and you ride down toward the Mississippi River — fun, scenic, and a little adventurous.
