Our Story

Thank God for Miller Dining Hall

Approximately 7.5 years ago, we met our first week at Montana State University through mutual friends. We are both Helena, MT natives, Jocelyn graduating from Capital High School and Nate from Helena High School, however had never officially met until college. Fast forward to Nate seeing Jocelyn at the most "romantic" spot on campus, the university dining hall. He mustered up the courage to ask Jocelyn on a date to go hiking. From here, the perceptions of our first date diverge and would be better told from our individual view points. Nate’s view: The first date was nothing short of epic. We embarked on a breathtaking hike up the Bridger Mountains attempting to summit “The M”, something few people accomplish. Ever the hero, I even gallantly saved Jocelyn from a deranged squirrel with my local guide book I had brought just in case of emergencies. Jocelyn was spellbound. Jocelyn’s view: Nate wanted to take us on the cheesy “M hike” that every guy takes a girl out on their first date. It was cliche but I decided that a little fresh air would be nice so I said yes. While we were hiking, we came across a little chipmunk on the side of the trail. It was one of those cute little ones with chubby cheeks and I wasn’t scared in the least. But Nate was completely enthralled by the squirrel and clumsily produced a glossary of local fauna to identify the squirrel. Despite this nerdy quality, I recognized that he had unique qualities and decided to give him a chance. He still has that local fauna book that he brings on every hike. Following our epic (or not so epic :)) first adventure, we were soon officially dating. Four years later, we graduated in the same major of Cell Biology, and sadly parted ways to graduate schools 2000 miles apart: Nate at OHSU Medical School in Portland, Oregon, and Jocelyn at Creighton's PA program in Omaha, Nebraska. 2.5 years of long distance ensued, involving many FaceTime "movie dates", letters, and calendar cross-offs. Following Jocelyn's graduation from PA school in December, she met Nate at her grandparent's house the first day she was back in Montana. He greeted her with a ring. We cannot wait to forever learn, hike, and laugh together.
