We're Getting Married!

No dating apps here! We met the old-fashioned way - at work. Both of us were at Mount Royal University Recreation when fate (and a shared staff room) brought us together. Kate worked in the Fitness Centre and was very vocal about her crush on “the hot Brazilian volleyball player.” Let’s just say her shift schedule magically aligned with Joao’s volleyball practices… and yes, she did a lot of laps past the gym. But it was Joao who made the first move—sort of. He asked a mutual friend about Kate (who basically exploded with excitement). Conveniently, our staff Christmas party was that night. Joao played it cool and didn’t ask for Kate’s number… so she took matters into her own hands. Over the next few months, we ended up working a lot of the same shifts, giving us plenty of time to chat, laugh, and pretend we weren’t both totally into each other. Eventually, Joao finally asked Kate to be his girlfriend. One week after that? The world shut down, and we found ourselves quarantined together with our friends Trent and Stacey. Five and a half years, a few thousand inside jokes, and many volleyball games later… here we are!
