We met while serving in the United States Air Force Reserve. We were both assigned to the 413th Aeromedical Staging Squadron at Robins Air Force Base. Joanne was a newly appointed 2nd lieutenant and D'Anthony was a seasoned 1st lieutenant. D'Anthony and Joanne both showed interest in psychology and mental health. Joanne was a mental health nurse and D'Anthony was a mental health counselor. This shared interest would eventually open the door for a new found connection! Joanne struggled adjusting to military life and D'Anthony offered a helping hand on various occasions. The two quickly developed a friendship. They started talking everyday for several hours. They discovered they had many things in common. D'Anthony finally decided to ask Joanne out on the first date. They went to the Downtown Grill in Macon, GA. D'Anthony was excited and nervous. Joanne was sick and hardly ate anything (lol). The first date was still enjoyable and further confirmed their connection. While Joanne was in officer school, she called her new friend for support and encouragement. It was during this stressful time that the two discovered they shared the same love for Jesus Christ.
