For the long holiday weekend, Joanna had family in town from Ohio while Jonathan was visiting friends in Charleston who happened to live in the same apartment building Joanna lived when she moved from Ohio to Charleston. The pool at the apartment building was packed for the 4th so Joanna actually woke up early to put dibs on a section of the pool equipped with table, chairs, and an umbrella since her family was there and she had Tabitha and her family coming over for the day. That afternoon, Joanna was setting up the cornhole boards to play a game and before she was done, Jonathan came out of nowhere to see if they could play the winners. He had just gotten back from a fishing charter and had saw Joanna setting up the boards from his friends’ balcony that overlooked the pool. Both groups of friends and family spent the rest of the evening together. Tabitha even grilled him because she could tell there was interest. Joanna told Tabitha not to waste her time, it’s not like they were going to get together since he lived in a different city. Jonathan asked Joanna to hang out the next day, but she was going out of town for Gracie’s puppy visit day. However, they did get to hang out again the next evening. Jonathan came back the following weekend to take Joanna on what he called “a proper date.” She found out 2 months later that he didn’t really care about the cornhole game (though he did crush it that day), he just wanted to meet that pretty girl setting up the cornhole boards. Jonathan moved to Charleston in April 2021 and they got engaged in December 2021.
