Around a year ago, my family and I moved to Texas from Toronto to escape the horrors of communist Canada. Pretty soon after that, we started attending The Parkway Church, where Lydia also went. A few weeks passed, and I noticed this girl who I thought was really cute. Our families got close to each other and I ended up going to Lydia’s house for some game nights. Every time I hung out with Lydia, I liked her more, until one day my family invited Lydia to go boating with us. On the boat I tried talking to her but she wouldn’t budge. After that I thought it was over-- she didn’t like me, despite my having a massive crush on her. {Lydia says: This is actually the day I started to like Jesse.} After a few more times hanging out and going to some baseball games with her family & mine, I started to regain hope that she liked me. Then a few weeks later at Chloe’s birthday party, I heard from a good friend (Elena’s husband, Will) that Lydia had a crush on me as well! I knew I had to take the opportunity. Every time I was with her, I saw how much of a godly woman she was and I would be so foolish to not ask her out. I called her and asked her on our first date. On our sushi date, it was so clear to me how much she loved the Lord. She asked me questions about the gospel and for my testimony. I knew that I found someone so special and she was nothing less than a gift from God. After dating her for a few months, I started to love her more and more, and her desire to glorify God became even more evident every time I saw her. I loved how much she served for church and for her home, how she held me accountable and helped me grow in Christ, and I saw how diligent she was in reading scripture and caring about glorifying God in her life. Eventually I couldn’t wait to propose any longer, and I’m so thankful that I did.
We'd like to honeymoon in the Colorado mountains.
