Famous last words. I am thankful to say God knew better. It all started the summer of 2014 when I was 20, and I had got lost in the Delaware Water Gap driving a group of girls out to youth camp. The camp leader put Jacob on the phone to help me find my way since he was from that part of Pennsylvania. Little did I know this 15 year old young man was going to change my life. During the course of two weeks of camp I didn't talk to him at all, never making the connection of the smart young man on the phone to the blonde, blue-eyed, popular "kid". :p On the second to last day of camp, God gave me guilt over putting Jacob in a preconceived box of someone not interesting to me, and I realized that we had things in common due to a camp activity we had completed. So, I casually introduced myself that night and apologized for not doing so earlier, and told him that I felt silly having gotten to know everyone else those last two weeks but not him. I then asked if he would want to talk a bit about our commonalities. He did his normal cute Jacob shrug (that I have since come to love), smiled, and said he would love to chat a bit, and he had the perfect place to do so. He grabbed two blankets from his cabin and took me to a little hill just off the path loop everyone usually walks and talks around. The stars had just come out and we spent the next three hours talking about life, family, loss, hurt, and the spiritual growth we both desperately wanted. We went separate ways that night as new best friends. The last day of camp we were inseparable. Chatting, laughing, and just being present with each other. We Skyped and did bible readings every night for the next 6 months, and God started working on my heart. Jacob was special. And I loved him. I knew this more than I'd been sure of anything else in my life. We discussed our feelings on January 4th, 2015, started long distance dating on March 7th, 2015, and on August 16th, 2019, Jacob asked me to be his wife and I said yes!!!
