Growing up, Karen never put much thought into how she would find the right one in the future. It was a strong belief that love was found naturally and definitely something that can't be forced. Jonathan always looked for that initial spark in a potential life partner. Having a birthday on Valentine's Day, he could always appreciate a good love story, but never knew if he would ever be part of one. If I were to tell you the moment Jonathan first laid eyes on Karen in the student union of Queens College, that he knew he would marry her, it would be untrue. Their story was one that took some time, a few happenstance moments, and a lot of love to develop. Whether they knew it or not, something was brewing in the air that day and that a journey would ensue.
At the start of the Fall semester of 2012 is when they first met. It happened to be Karen's first semester and Jonathan's last. Given that it was also Karen's first year of living in New York coming from Hong Kong, she had a good friend show her around campus. They happened to run into a group of her guy friends, of which one individual happened to be Jonathan. Their introductions to each other were short in passing and a connection was never established. It wasn't until the end of the semester that they would meet again. After getting to know each other and finding out they were actually close neighbors, they started to exchange casual conversations. Gradually, it was more of a normal occurrence to see them together. From the gym to waiting for each other after class, the walks across campus wouldn't keep them from seeing each other, even if it was just for a moment. About a year later, their friendship turned into an official relationship on October 11th, 2013.
It didn’t take long for Jonathan to realize how special their relationship was. This feeling originated as far back as their ‘just friends’ stage. Even then, he had a good feeling that Karen could potentially be the one. In their fourth year of dating, a perfect opportunity presented itself for Jonathan to share his true feelings. It was the summer of 2018 when Karen planned a trip back to Hong Kong to visit her parents. Every year Jonathan would go with Karen on these trips to Asia, but this year he told her that he would stay behind in New York due to work. In the days after Karen landed, Jonathan would pull up pictures of their first visit to Hong Kong just to reminisce. He came across a photograph they took at the very top of the Ferris wheel and realized that no new experience in life was worth experiencing without her. On August 14th, 2018, at the base of the Ferris wheel in Central, Hong Kong, Jonathan and Karen were surrounded by her parents and close friends. Time essentially stood still for them when Jonathan told Karen that she was the only person worth chasing around the world, even if it was just to see her for a moment and asked her if she would spend the rest of their lives together.
