Santa Maria, Portugal In the heart of the Azores lies a hidden gem known as Santa Maria, a place where rugged beauty meets serene landscapes. August 2022 brought an unforgettable adventure for the both of us! For JJ, Santa Maria held a deeper significance – it was the home of his parents and grandparents. A place where generations of his family have made so many memories! It was extra special to share this place with Ashley! We had so many adventures! Hikes through lush forests, swims in crystal-clear waters, and laughter-filled reunions with JJ's family painted a picture of love and togetherness. Every moment was drenched in the warmth of the sun and the fragrance of the ocean breeze. One sunny morning, JJ led Ashley on a short hike to the crown jewel of the island – Pico Alto. At the summit, a few fellow travelers savored the panoramic views, but JJ patiently waited for a moment for just the two of us. As Ashley was capturing the breathtaking scenery on video, she turned around to find JJ on one knee, a radiant smile illuminating his face. The shock of the moment was overwhelming, and Ashley's burst into tears of joy! Upon returning to JJ's family's house, a surprise awaited them. Their room was decorated with signs, balloons, and flowers. We then celebrated the night away!
