Question

When is RSVP due?

Answer

RSVPs are due May 1st 2023. We would highly appreciate your RSVP by then or earlier! Due to the fact that we’re planning this from the other side of the globe, we need RSVPs in by then so we can co-ordinate with the wedding vendors and do all the needed minutia tasks to get it set up! If you’d like to help, please let us know! Jinandjoel at gmail dot com

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Casual Attire: Anything goes, from sundresses and sandals to jeans and tees.

Question

Am I invited to the Tea Ceremony?

Answer

Yes! Due to the nature of our gathering and to make it more efficient, we will be breaking tradition, and hosting both, the tea ceremony and the banquet dinner at the same location back-to-back. We encourage everyone to show up early (For those of you that operate on "Malaysian schedule", that means on time or earlier). The restaurant closes at 10.30pm so we will have to wrap things up by 10.15pm so we have enough time to clean up and pack up!

Question

This is my first time in Malaysia. What should I pack?

Answer

Weather is Malaysia is consistently hot and humid. If you check the weather forecast, you'll probably only see a 5% chance of difference in the direction that the wind blows, rest of the days, the temperature fluctuates 1-3 degrees F. Be prepared to change more often as it's going to be hot and humid. However, we recommend bringing a light jacket, sweater, or raincoat in case of rainy weather or when it gets cold inside the highly air-conditioned malls! Recommended: Shorts, t-shirts, sleeveless t-shirts, sleeveless blouses, skirts, dresses, sun hat, sunscreen, bug spray if you're going hiking, water bottle for drinking water, comfortable shoes.

Question

International travalers: Will my phone work?

Answer

T-Mobile offers unlimited worldwide data, which includes service in Malaysia. You'll either get LTE, 3G, 4G, or 5G service in Malaysia, depending on what your phone allows. For other carriers, please check with your carrier. We highly recommend downloading and setting up Whatsapp as that will really help you with communicating with local vendors and in case you need to make appointments, majority businesses in Malaysia support and use Whatsapp. To download Whatsapp, go to this website: https://www.whatsapp.com/download

Question

Traveling from overseas: Should I bring cash? Does Malaysia take foreign credit cards?

Answer

Yes, please prepare some Malaysian Ringgits! They are known as MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) or RM (Ringgit Malaysia.) There are still many places in Malaysia (Especially the local street markets, artisan markets) that only take cash, or prefer cash. Your credit card will work in most major malls. Please try to exchange/use the ATM machines at the airport to withdraw MYR/ RM. There are a few major banks in the US that will exchange MYR/ RM but you should plan ahead and get it done at least 1-2 weeks ahead of your travel as local banks don't necessarily carry enough MYR/ RM and they may have to get it from HQ.
