We're finally doing the thing!

It's been 10 years in the making

Born and raised in LA, Christine left Socal for the first time to go to Georgetown University, where she met Jin, a classmate and roommate of the only other person she had connections with in Washington, D.C.. Jin, having grown up in China, Mexico City, Nebraska, and Philly, was very different from Christine. Christine wasn't planning on dating anyone in this one year masters degree program because her goal was to go to medical school, but after spending 12 hours a day together in a library study room for six months, she gave in to her feelings. All we can assume from Jin's point of view was that it was love at first sight. After graduation, Christine went back to LA while Jin stayed to work at the NIH for a year, and they somehow got through long distance. Then Christine got into medical school in New York while Jin got into medical school in Texas, and they got through four more years of long distance. They only got to see each other twice a year during those days--summer break and winter break--bc they were poor and busy med students who didn't have the means to fly and visit each other. Then when it was time for residency, they ranked 348 combinations of programs, and thankfully couples matched into LA, where they have enjoyed being in the same city the last five years. Christine is currently a first year Pulmonary Critical Care fellow at Harbor-UCLA, and Jin is a Chief Surgery resident at Huntington Hospital, and will be joining Christine at Harbor-UCLA next year for Trauma & Surgical Critical Care fellowship. It only took 10 years, but Christine is so excited to finally work at the same hospital with Jin. Christine and Jin are still (less) poor and busy trainees, who had no plans for a wedding. But they weren’t getting any younger. Christine had a light rotation in January where she started planning, and realized it might be possible to get married just four months later in May, when they both had scheduled vacation. Given that they were moving in July, Jin with written boards and starting fellowship in August, and oral boards in the Fall, 5/13/23 was the date they had to settle on. They sincerely apologize for not being able to give their guests earlier notice. Christine is having daily panic attacks planning a wedding this quickly, but they are both so excited to finally celebrate their love with some of their closest family and friends.
