Our Story

March 2015 - "You've Got A Match!"

Like many millennial couples, Jimy and Andrew both swiped right and met online. While in similar places in their lives, both ready to fully commit to their careers and forget about love for a while (they were jaded 27-year-olds after all) they both also had a similar thought: “fine, I’ll go on one more date.” After a fun, flirty, and interesting series of online conversations, they had their first date in March of 2015 in Brooklyn at a little bar called Troost. "Troost" is a Dutch word meaning “anything that provides a little luxury, or makes one feel happier.” Little did they know they were about to be troost for each other. As often is the case, Andrew was late, but came bearing gifts. Jimy’s online name involved the word “mango” and Andrew took it as a hint. He also had a hunch she wasn’t the type to appreciate flowers on the first date, but a juicy mango? How could she resist? He scoured the grocery store for the best mango he could find, topped it with an orange bow to match, and surprised Jimy with it. She loved it, she forgave (but never forgot) his lateness, and they proceeded to have a wonderful time, laughing, and talking deep into the night. Like a gentleman, he walked her to her door, and said goodnight. They both left with smiles on their faces. And once clear of one another, they collectively felt that feeling in their stomach. That knowing sense that said “oh man, this person is going to change my life, aren’t they?” And they were both right. Fast forward to a year later, and sure fun times had been had, but Jimy was ready to spread her wings. She bought a one-way ticket to LA to follow her dreams of becoming a Hollywood writer. Wanting to support her, but not quite ready to make the leap yet himself, Andrew helped Jimy pack up, and sent her on her way. They hugged at the airport, not wanting to let go, but when they did, Andrew told her to go confidently to LA, to not look back, and to give it her all. Jimy appreciated that more than he could ever know. They played chicken for six months. Each of them hoping the other would give in and move back, and they’d finally be back together again. Needless to say, but Jimy won. And rightly so. Encouraged by her bravery to fly across the country, Andrew set out to follow his dreams in LA alongside Jimy. They’ve been there together ever since. Through thick and thin, they’ve had each other’s backs, pushed each other to strive for greatness, and have been there for one another along the way. They survived the move to LA, long distance, living together, the pandemic, losing loved ones, career ups and downs, and through all of it, they’ve remained both deeply in love, and deeply in like, because spending forever with someone is as much about enjoying their company, as it is about your loving devotion to them. Their friendship is as strong as their relationship. They both believe in that, and it’s been their secret sauce (patent pending).

The Engagment

July 2023 - Around the World on The London Eye

In 2023, with the pandemic finally seeming to ease up, Andrew resumed his plan to pop the question that he'd put on hold since 2020. He worked in secret for months with a destination engagement service out of London, a custom ring designer in New York City, a luxury hotel, and a renowned Indian restaurant, to concoct the perfect day to go along with a surprise proposal at the very top of The London Eye. After a speech that he had rehearsed for weeks in the twilight hours after Jimy had gone to sleep, the London rain stopped, the clouds parted, and the sun shined down as Andrew got down on one knee. The musician, who had secretly boarded their private pod with her guitar, began to serenade them, as the hired photographers and videographer captured it all on camera. The song the musician played, a song Andrew had dedicated to Jimy the year they started dating, features lyrics that state “Who would’ve thought that I’d get you?” With the song playing, and the sunlight beaming, the largest ferris wheel on the continent came to a stop right at the top of its rotation. And with a twinkle in both of their eyes, Andrew asked for Jimy's hand in marriage. Excited, Jimy snatched the ring out of his hand and slid it right onto her finger. They had to watch video footage back afterward just to make sure she had actually said yes. They then trekked through Europe after the proposal with big smiles, full hearts, and even fuller bellies. They got home, celebrated with family and began the two years of procrastination to finally start planning this wedding.
