Our Engagement Story
The first time Jillian "met" Aaron, she didn't actually meet him. She was interviewing for a job and while getting a tour of the offices, they pointed to a cubicle and said "this is where Lurch sits." Having no idea what or who a Lurch was, she googled it and her first thought was "wow, this is a goofy lookin dude." Fast forward to becoming coworkers. Aaron's first memory of Jillian is when he offered her a coupon for free Hooter's chicken wings and she replied "I'm a recovering vegan." Not knowing what to do with that information, he slowly walked away from her desk and began keeping to himself unless he was hanging out with her roommate or coworkers. The more he avoided her, the more her crush grew. One night out with friends, Jillian offered to hold his jacket. She figured this was a sure fire "in" with him, and what did he do? SAID NO. In his eyes he was being polite by not having her hold his jacket all night long, and in her eyes, she had just been rejected very quickly, but persistence is key. Jillian's next tactic was through Aaron's stomach. She had received a coupon in the mail for a free Chipotle entrée, wrapped it up and gave it to Aaron as a birthday gift. It was her hope that he would ask her to Chipotle with him...but no. Once baseball season started, her roommate wasn't around as much and she knew this was her chance. One of Aaron's favorite movies is Back to the Future, which Jillian had never seen. She asked to borrow the movies, thinking he would know she wanted to watch with him, but again...rejected. She watched the first one by herself and then had to be forward enough to tell him she wanted to watch with him. He came over for the second movie and left promptly at the end with barely saying goodbye. Her next step was to actually go out somewhere together. She asked him to get froyo and he, again, turned her down, but this time she was prepared. Jillian replied with "Kyle would go" (her roommate) and BAM, she was in! Off to froyo they went, accompanied by Ace who was very skeptical of Aaron to start with, but he may be the reason Aaron fell for Jillian. From their first froyo dates, Aaron justified all of his previous rejections by making it known that he didn't want a work-place relationship. Movie nights continued, followed with more trips to the local froyo shop where they battled at connect four, and late night walks with Ace after baseball games. Over the course of a few months, they knew this was real and worth the risk of dating a co-worker, even though they had to keep it a secret from the workplace. NOW LOOK AT THEM. She gets to hold his jacket whenever she wants and now they go to Chipotle together.
