How We Met | Jarret

He says...

Middle school. We met in middle school. At the time we were not close, but in detail I remember a brief conversation on the bus on the 6th grade New York trip. Safe to say I had a crush on Jillian from the beginning. Throughout, 7th and 8th grade, we again went to the same school but were on different teams and parts of the building. We would only see each other passing in the hallway. However, 9th grade is when I started to see her everyday. We even shared a class or two together. When we passed in the hallway I would say “Hiya Jill” with a head nod and she would reply “Hiya Jarr” with the cutest little smirk on her face, that showed the dimple on her left cheek. The same dimple you will see to this day, when she does that little smirk. Yes, I still had my crush on her, but the timing was not right. I went off to Maryland after high school. We didn't keep in touch other than when we saw each other pop up on Facebook or Twitter. We would sometimes message on twitter but that was it at the time. However, a close mutual friend of ours was having her birthday in Baltimore and I attended. A few friends and I are talking amongst ourselves and my loud mouth blurts out, “If I get everything I want then how come Jillian is not my girlfriend?! If I got my way she would be!” I turn around and well, there she is staring at me with a puzzled look on her face. I imagine she was embarrassed, but she just gave me that little smirk letting me know, everything is alright. With some persistence, she eventually agreed to go on a date with me. We went to Firestone, ate pizza and laughed about growing up and the high school days. On the way back to the car, she peed in the bushes, displaying public intoxication-which I’m sure is a criminal offense in Delaware, but I ain’t no snitch! Instead, I just looked to the Heavens above and said, “Lord…this is the one!” I was in love. And now here we are today!

How We Met | Jillian

She says...

I’ll start by saying that Jarret swears we met in middle school, but I don’t remember him from that time. Sorry babe! Here’s my story. In high school, we always crossed paths in the library hallway. He would say “Hiya Jill!” and I would say “Hiya Jarr!” That was the extent of our conversations. From there, we fast forward to circa 2010, five or six years later. Jarret had just moved back to Delaware after living in MD for awhile for college. We started seeing each other around the same hangout spots. It wasn’t until a mutual friend’s birthday party (hey Maya!) where Jarret’s decades-long crush on me was no longer a secret and I’ll never forget the scene: someone said Jarret always goes after what he wants and usually gets it. Jarret shouted “If that was true, Jillian would be my girlfriend!” It was like that moment in the movies where the record scratches and the crowd falls silent. Everyone else knew, but I finally found out that Jarret had a crush on me going back to (apparently) middle school, but the timing was never right. Until now. At the time, BlackBerry messenger was all the rage and Twitter was pretty new. We started sending messages to each other using these platforms still just as friends, but one day I finally decided to go on a date with him. We went to Firestone on the riverfront and as they say, the rest is history!
